I love to entertain friends and family and our deck is often the gathering place.
There's just something about Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Music, and Friends that just make everything right in my world.
Anyway, as I was pulling the patio umbrella out of the storage building, I became sad.
Sad because my trusty umbrella was faded and worn looking.
Not exactly something that I would be happy to display. Of course I had lovely thoughts about what kind of new umbrella would grace my deck. So off to Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and K-Mart, I went.
Now remember, I'm cheap. The prices I saw were not exactly making me jump for joy. So I went home empty handed. I thought I could get online and find one from Amazon or Overstock at a better price. I had no better luck with that. So I had decided to just make due with the worn and faded umbrella for this season. :( Life will go on.
A few days later I was in the storage building looking for something and I came across a can of red spray paint. I had a brilliant idea. I would just spray paint the umbrella. So here I am dragging out the saw horses and heading out for the driveway. So I get everything set up and reinspect the umbrella. I did a pretty good job of cleaning it the other day, so I'm good to go.
I just start painting. The fabric on the umbrella got a light even coat of spray paint.
Of course I am in the middle of painting when Jimmy pulls in the drive. He said it was official...I have lost my mind lol
As you can see it turned out very nice. ( I forgot to take a photo while I had it propped on the saw horses. Sorry ) It may not be perfect, but a $5 can of spray paint saved me $100 or more at least for one more season. I am one happy chick.
The spray paint didn't make the umbrella stiff like I thought it would. I think it's because I just did a light coat. So before you throw away that old faded umbrella, give this a shot. If your husband thinks you're nuts, I'm sure he will change his tune when he realizes that you have saved a bunch of money. I know that Jimmy certainly did. :)
